What I did to fix this mess.

It's obvious why this installation failed. The IDIOT installed right over OSB with mastic!

This is the type of workmanship home buyers can look forward to when buying a new home from most builders.

�No backerboard of any kind over the lumber.
Wood will shrink, expand, twist and ultimately cause the tile to fail ... usually within a few months.

"How do builders and retail ceramic tile stores get away with this crap!?"

Poly and wire lath is attached to the existing surfaces.
"Fat Mud" (wall mud) is used to build a mortar bed. Don't confuse this with "scratchcoat" ... this bed is at least 3/4" thick, level and plumb.
When it's done right ..... it lasts for as long as the house is standing.

Notice the slight slope on the top so that water won't set along the edge of the tub.
