After the mud is mixed he puts some into his "mud box". |

You can see his vertical float strips and the plywood screed for the mantle. This enables him to make his areas "plumb" and flat. |

As Ron has demonstrated with this photo, his mural is centered and installed first. The mud is applied to the vertical face of the mantle.
After it sets for awhile, it will be scraped off to create a level and plumb surface for tile. |
